Add Meta Tags

Meta tags are the hidden information that is embedded in the web page HTML code. There are 3 very important tags. They are the Title Tag, the Description Tag and the Keywords Tag. When the web first started the 3 important meta tags (Title, Description and Keywords) were all that was needed to achieve a good PageRank. Times have changed and Meta Tags now only form part of what you need for an optimized site. You should be looking to achieve correlation between the Meta Tags information and the web page copy to achieve your objective.

Title Tag

Perhaps the most important tag of the 3 is the Title Tag. This should be located in the HEAD section of your HTML page and consist of 50 to 80 characters (including spaces). it should have 1 to 2 of your most important keyword phrases in it. It should NOT just be a series of keywords and it MUST read as well composed English to the reader. Each page should have its own unique Title Tag, don't just keep using the same Title Tag on all pages in the site (a common mistake). You also need to make the Title compelling to the reader as this is one of the first things they will see in the Search Engine Listing so it must wet their appetite and make them want to visit your site.

Description Tag

The Description Meta Tag should be placed in the HEAD section of your HTML page . It should contain 3 to 4 of your keyword phrases that you have previously used in the page copy and it should in total be no longer than 250 characters (including spaces). This tag must accurately describe the content of your page while trying to entice visitors to click on your listing. It is recommended that you place your most important keyword phrases toward the start of the tag so that they can be read by users of most Search Engines.

Keywords Tag

The Keywords Meta Tag should be placed in the HEAD section of your HTML page . It should contain keyword phrases, separated by commas, that you have previously used in the page copy and it should in total be no longer than 1024 characters (including spaces). You should put and different spellings of the page keyword phrases in this tag plus any common mis-spellings. Try not to repeat a single word more than 5 times. If you operate in a specific geographic location be sure to use lots of keywords for the local area.
